Watercare pulls plug on new housing across 21 suburbs

Developers claim a ‘disconnect’ between the city’s overcapacity water providers and council consenting office.

Development community say they were paying for consents, only to have water connections denied.

A problem that Watercare denied even existed has come home to roost, with 21 suburbs now classed as ‘red zoned’, halting housing projects in their tracks, often after they had been granted resource consent.
