US Congress removes imported meat labelling rules

Canada and Mexico threatened trade boycotts of US products over country-of-origin labels.

The US Congress, often seen as a hotbed of anti-trade initiatives, has voted to remove country-of-origin labelling (COOL) for imported meat.

The 300-131 vote in the House of Representatives will prevent a protracted battle over the labels for beef, pork and chicken from Canada and Mexico.
