Unitary Plan appeals could clog courts for more than a year

Government departments are understood to have been expressly prohibited from lodging appeals even if it affects them adversely

Some contentious appeals against the Auckland Unitary Plan could take more than a year to resolve despite the Environment Court already starting active case management.

Of government departments who made submissions to the Unitary Plan, only the Ministry of Defence has filed an appeal.
