Treasury: Evidence supporting RBNZ's restrictions on property investors is 'weak'

Documents released by the Treasury under the OIA show it thinks the Reserve Bank hasn't made a good enough case to restrict bank lending to Auckland property investors.

The Treasury says the evidence is weak for the Reserve Bank’s view that property investors are more risky than other kinds of home buyers.

Papers released under the Official Information Act last week also show the Treasury opposes the central bank’s decision to relax loan-to-valuation ratio (LVR)
