Supersized super yacht, a vision of luxury - the Serene arrives in Auckland

What has a helicopter and submarine hanger, two helipads and is so big it can’t fit into Auckland’s Wynyard Wharf?

The answer is the Serene – a $423(NZD) million super yacht owned by Russian Billionaire Yuri Shefler; founder and owner of SPI Group.

The 134m vessel is one of the largest private yachts in the world, so big in fact that it didn’t fit in its dedicated big boat marina when it berthed this morning. (See photo below)

It is the fifth most expensive yacht in the world by some estimates - behind the $350 (USD) million Dubai (also known as ‘the floating city’).

Launched in 2007, she is believed to be one of the most technically advanced superyachts ever constructed.

The Serene herself is a vision of luxury; boasting an internal seawater pool, a "snow room", a spa and sauna, a climbing wall and a multiple deck water slide with a crew of 52.

Her owner’s company is behind more than 380 international brands, including Stolichnaya vodka, premium vodka range, Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya.

In 2013, Mr Shefker purchased an estate in Malibu California for $75 million.

He is understood to be in New Zealand for several weeks on holiday.

In the summer of 2014 Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was spotted on the yacht with his family, enjoying a Mediterranean holiday.

Serene is available for charter for the modest price of €1.6 million a week.
