Auckland mayor Len Brown has been told to take the lead and reject the latest pay rise, giving him a $6000 a year boost.

The Remuneration Authority has given a 2.3% pay rise to Mr Brown, taking his pay packet to $256,500. Councillors will now get $104,250 a year each.
