Macraes miner announces $1b US deal

OceanaGold buys South Carolina project, reports first half profit plunge.

Macraes gold mine operator OceanaGold [NZX: OGC] has agreed to buy a gold mine in the US for $C856 million ($995m) in an all share transaction.

The deal to acquire Canadian company Romarco, whose main asset is the Haile project near Kershaw in South Carolina, was announced overnight.
