Government eyeing council-owned land for tree planting scheme
A spokeswoman for Minister of Forestry Shane Jones says the government is not looking at buying land “at this stage.”

The Coalition government is looking into leasing blocks of land in Central Otago and Northland to “kick-start” its one billion tree planting programme.
But the Crown will not buy any land for the ambitious scheme “at this stage,” a spokeswoman for Minister of Forestry Shane Jones says.
