Government eyeing council-owned land for tree planting scheme

The Coalition government is looking into leasing blocks of land in Central Otago and Northland to “kick-start” its one billion tree planting programme.

But the Crown will not buy any land for the ambitious scheme “at this stage,” a spokeswoman for Minister of Forestry Shane Jones says.
