Don’t get your hopes up for a pay rise this year

This could be bad news for the many Auckland bus drivers on strike last week, over working hours and a pay increase.

The chances of a pay rise this year are looking slim for many, despite a pick-up in the labour market and relatively healthy business sentiment.

This is because, generally, wage increases are tied to inflation and there are no signs it’s picking up.
