CHING, Mark

Mark Ching owns a third of shipping line Armacup, which pioneered the Japanese used car trade to New Zealand in 1989.

Operating under the slogan “Driving the Pacific,” the present Armacup fleet consists of three huge Pure Car & Truck Carriers, each with a capacity of 4900 cars, which ply their trade between New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China, South Korea, Europe, Canada and the South Pacific.

Ching bought the business in 1992 before selling down his stake to Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, a global shipping and logistics firm which is now listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange with a market cap of $4.2 billion.

Armacup actively supports Cure Kids Fiji with significant financial contributions and, through Vomo Island Resort, provides exciting experiences for children living with rheumatic heart disease.

Ching’s property interests stretch from Queenstown to Omaha in New Zealand and he also has a half share in Fiji’s Vomo Island Resort, the five-star luxury private island which charges from $1700-4800 a night for one of its 28 villas.

He is a small shareholder in Upside Biotechnologies, which is developing treatment for severe burns.
