Chances of an interest rate cut in June plummet

A more hawkish tone from the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Federal Reserve in the United States have taken the pressure off NZ's central bank to cut rates. With special feature audio.

Betting in financial markets on an official cash rate (OCR) cut in June has slumped dramatically.

The markets are now pricing in just a 30% chance of a rate cut, down from 52% a week ago and 82% two weeks ago.

That’s more likely to reflect more hawkish than expected statements from the Reserve
