CERA destroys near-new building in rebuild strategy

Taxpayers will have paid out about $4 million to demolish a building so a central city Christchurch road can be widened.

Contractors working for the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority have nearly finished demolition of the new Westende building.

The Westende building was the first to be rebuilt after the 2011 earthquakes and an early symbol of the rebuild.
