South Island businessman Jim Boult says he wouldn’t be standing for mayor of the Queenstown Lakes District if he didn’t think he had a strong chance of winning.

Incumbent Vanessa van Buden is standing down and her deputy of six years, Lyal Cocks, of Wanaka, is also seeking the mayoralty.
