If anybody doubted the influence that mortgage brokers now wield in the housing market, they need look no further than Bank of New Zealand’s accounts.

BNZ refused to deal with mortgage brokers for 12 years and its market share fell from nearly 17.5% in 2008 to less than 15.5% last year.
