ASB Bank’s chief executive Barbara Chapman is playing down her bank’s strong growth in mortgages in the second half of last year.

The bank’s share of new mortgage lending, based on banks’ disclosure statements, in the September quarter, was 31% of all new mortgage lending by registered banks
