Alcohol industry warns it can't absorb 6.9% excise hike

The alcohol industry warned of substantial hardship and fuelled inflation when the annual excise rise, the biggest in three decades, happens at the end of the month.

The government will lift its excise on alcohol by 6.92%, in line with CPI, on July 1.

Last year’s excise take was more than $1.22
