NZX-listed Wynyard Group [NZX: WYN] is setting up a base in central Christchurch.
It will be in the historic three-level McKenzie & Willis building site on the corner of High and Tuam streets.
The rebuild will be a joint venture between owner/developer Richard Peebles and some family shareholders of McKenzie and Willis and has a final value of nearly $40 million. It will cost about $4 million to incorporate the old facade.
After the earthquakes McKenzie and Willis relocated to Blenheim Rd, a few kilometres to the west of the city centre.
The new building will house about 100 Wynyard research and development, and software engineering staff.
The neighbourhood has been dubbed an “innovation precinct” where other technology-focused businesses also lease premises.
Work is due to begin in April 2015 with completion scheduled for March 2016.
