Ill health is forcing Wynyard chairman Murray Horn to step down from the board with immediate effect.

His resignation was announced by the anti-crime software company in a stock exchange announcement this morning.

Dr Horn said Wynyard had taken much time and energy in the leadup to its rights issue this year.

“Medical advice sought over the last few weeks is that I should not try to continue to work at the same full pace and need to consider reducing the range of roles I undertake. On this basis, it is with regret I have decided to step down from the board of Wynyard.”

Dr Horn is also on the board of listed telco Spark [NZX: SPK]. It is understood Spark has a board meeting tomorrow and Dr Horn’s position may be on the agenda.

Wynyard Group also announced further board changes, with director Guy Haddleton taking on the chairmanship and founding director Susan Peterson deciding against seeking re-election at the company’s annual meeting on June 20.

Fiona Oliver, who joined the board on April 19, will stand for election at the AGM.

Mr Haddleton, an experienced technology entrepreneur, said the board accepted Dr Horn’s resignation with regret.

“Murray has made an enormous contribution as chairman of Wynyard since the company’s inception and the extent of his personal commitment and involvement over the course of this year has been invaluable. I have learnt a lot from him and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Wynyard completed a heavily discounted $30 million rights issue in March at 85c a share, after efforts to raise capital in a placement to institutions failed.

Its stock closed on Friday at 69c a share.
