Sky TV chief executive speculation amid a round of telco industry musical chairs.

Vodafone New Zealand's top marketing man is leaving, the company confirms to NBR.

Chief executive Russell Stanners announced to staff this morning that consumer director Matt Williams will depart.

NBR received a leak soon after, along with speculation Mr Williams will take the top job at Sky TV, where John Fellet is serving out his time until a replacement is found.

However, a Vodafone spokeswoman says Mr Williams won't leave for another six months, which would put him on the outer limit of Mr Fellet's remaining tenure.

Mr Williams' time at Vodafone has coincided with a number of marketing controversies (at least in the Commerce Commission's eyes).

The most recent involves the company's "FibreX" promotion, which the commission alleges causes confusion with UFB fibre. The case was due to be heard in court this week but was adjourned until June 9.

Hyde arrives at Chorus
In other telco arrival-and-departure news, Chorus said it had hired Ed Hyde as its chief customer officer.

Until recently, Mr Hyde was head of Spark's Ventures unit, home of new initiatives such as Lightbox and big-data operation Qrious.

That position was axed in a recent restructure.
