Vodafone has pulled the plug on wholesale customer Intagr8 after it racked up a bill of about $1 million. This leaves 2000 businesses in danger of losing phone services.

Wholesaler Intagr8 had been the subject of customer complaints in recent months, while media reports from Fairfax journalists Tony Wall and Blair Ensor focused on sales tactics that seemed to offer free hardware as part of phone services but were actually signing customers up to finance agreements.

In a statement, Vodafone director of wholesale Steve Rieger said the decision to terminate Intagr8’s contract had occurred “after a long and protracted process of discussions regarding payment.”

It is understood that Intagr8 owes Vodafone at least $1.7m, a bill racked up as Intagr8’s customers continued to use phone services that Intagr8 was not paying for.

Vodafone said it recognised the contract termination could have a severe effect on Intagr8’s customers and said it was keen to help provide continuity of service.

It urged Intagr8 customers to call a helpline on 0800 888 133 to arrange continuing services.

Vodafone said it had had been in active discussions with intagr8 for about six weeks.

Liquidators Damien Grant and Steven Khov from Waterstone Insolvency were appointed to Intagr8 today after a special resolution of the company’s shareholders.

Intagr8 is owned by Auckland businessman Murray Craig Taylor.
