Spark New Zealand [NZX: SPK] is putting its money where its mouth is, and is trialling virtual annual shareholder meetings.

Its 41,000 shareholders in New Zealand and overseas will be able to actively participate in its annual meeting next month virtually via online platforms.

Shareholders will be able to view the presentations of directors and management, vote on the resolutions and ask questions through the internet using their own computer.

The country's biggest telecommunications provider believes it to be the first time a listed company in New Zealand or Australia has done so.

Spark chairman Mark Verbiest released a statement saying the digital services company is “keen to take the lead” in new digital capabilities, to expand the reach and relevance of investor communications.

The meeting is to be held in Auckland on November 6 and shareholders who want to take part in the trial must register at investors.sparknz.co.nz by October 30.

American Depositary Receipt holders are not eligible to participate.

Spark’s shares are at $3.04 today, having lifted about 10% in the past year.
