British businessman Michael Spencer has been named the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 at an awards ceremony held in Monte Carlo’s Salle des Etoiles.
He was picked from among the more than 50 finalists, each of whom had already been named the Entrepreneur Of The Year in their home countries.
Mr Spencer is founder of financial services company ICAP, which has been the best performing financial stock in the FTSE 100 index over the past decade.
The business was launched in 1986 with $US45,000 as an interest swap broker. Today it is a leading inter-dealer broker and provider of post-trade services, handling a large portion of the world’s foreign exchange and financial instrument transactions.
It has an average daily transaction volume measured in trillions of US dollars and revenues of more than $US2 billion.
New Zealand’s finalist was Diane Foreman, CEO Emerald Group. She and the other finalists were inducted into the World Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame.
