Uber launches scheduled rides in Seattle, says will be introduced all-over
Scheduled in Seattle.
Scheduled in Seattle.
One of Uber's drawbacks for business customers — or anyone who likes to be on time — is that its app has no option to book rides in advance.
Now the company is running a scheduled rides pilot in Seattle, and says the feature will eventually be available everywhere.
That's a good thing.
As the Wall Street Journal points out, In September, Uber chief executive Travis Kalanick said Uber had no plans to offer scheduled rides. In September, he told Salesforce's Dreamforce conference, “We want to be so reliable that you don’t have to schedule rides,” Mr. Kalanick said at the Salesforce Dreamforce conference. “Do you schedule time with your shower? You don’t think about scheduling time with your shower. You just turn the faucet and it works.”
Good goal, but Uber is not quite there yet. NBR has had an average wait around the Auckland CBD of a so-so six or seven minutes, but off-peak — or in a less densely populated area — it can. One Sunday morning, NBR got a no drivers available message when trying to get a ride to the airport and had to call (horrors) a conventional taxi.
So get a move on, Travis. Give us scheduled rides for all.
