From the One Born Every Minute department: Two of the new $10 bank notes are being auctioned on Trade Me with a $25 reserve.
The two notes, with a face value of (wait for it) $20 have already attracted two bids, pushing the auction to $30.
A number of commenters have wondered how $20 worth of currency could be worth $25, or more.
The seller, "mudeki" says the notes are worth more because they are "uncirculated".
It was pointed out the notes have been subject to at least a little circulation to land them in the seller's hands, but he (or she) qualifies that "uncirculated" means in a "mint state with no creases or folds." The seller also implies the notes' "AC" prefix is valuable. With an $10 profit so far, he or she might be onto something there.
A mere 345,000 of the new $5 and $10 bank notes were issued on Monday.
Shortly there will be around 45 million of the new notes in circulation, providing a broad range of opportunities to snaggle a mint condition example from your local bank.
And if you're one of the bidder's on mudeki's auction, please get in touch with NBR. We have a bridge in London you might be interested in.
