Trash TV war: The Ridges vs The GC – Nielsen's verdict is in

The GC beats The Ridges.

The reality TV show starring Sally Ridge and daughter Jamie debuted on TV3 last night with a 5+ audience of 325,000 [see UPDATED ratings below].*

The GC, chronicling the lives and loves of young Maori on Queensland's Gold Coast, achieved an audience of 355,000 with its first episode, which screened on the same network on May 2.

Over its eight episodes, The GC had an average audience of 315,000.

The first episode of The Ridges saw Sally and Jamie faced with the presence of a mouse in their kitchen. 

“Take my bag, mum," Jamie said, as she made to escape the rodent. “It’s quite heavy – it has my iPad in it."
