Seekers of fresh employment opportunities have pushed Trade Me Jobs to the top position in October.

Trade Me Jobs has become New Zealand’s most popular employment website edging just ahead of seek.co.nz with 860,922 domestic unique browsers according to Nielsen Market Intelligence.

Seek was close behind with 857,486 domestic unique browsers. However, visitors spent more time at seek.co.nz compared against Trade Me Jobs.

The New Zealand Herald’s online employment section attracted 86,032 unique browsers with Student Job Search behind that.

Fairfax Media’s myjobspace.co.nz barely rated with just 212 domestic unique browsers.

Trade Me Jobs head Peter Ashby said the goal was always to attract more traffic.

“Getting there has taken a hell of a lot of hard work by a lot of people and we’re absolutely rapt,” he said.

This comes after the site was voted New Zealand’s favourite job site at the 2010 NetGuide Awards in August.

Mr Ashby attributed the rise to the top spot in a two key differences in its approach.

“From day one Trade Me Jobs has focused on kiwi consumers. It’s simple and easy to use and reflects the way kiwis look for jobs. Secondly, we’ve grown the market by catering to the non-metropolitan areas neglected by others and made job advertising more affordable.”
