Tony Ryall joins top-tier law firm
Former minister joins Simpson Grierson — Kim Dotcom's law firm.
Former top-rated National cabinet minister Tony Ryall is joining law firm Simpson Grierson.
The former health minister and MP is not a lawyer but a statement from the firm says he will join the firm’s public policy team in January to provide "strategic and operational leadership."
Simpson Grierson's chairman Kevin Jaffe says the appointment is another significant initiative in the development and growth of the firm.
“Over the years Tony has developed an in-depth knowledge of public policy issues across government and business, giving him a diverse and unique view across the New Zealand and wider regional economy," he says in a statement.
Mr Ryall says the interface between the public and private sectors in New Zealand is increasingly important.
“I am looking forward to working at that interface with Simpson Grierson and its clients."
Mr Ryall entered Parliament at the age of 26 in Jim Bolger’s 1990 landslide win. He was one of four young MPs – the others being Bill English, Nick Smith, and Roger Sowry – dubbed the “bratpack.”
Simpson Grierson is one of New Zealand's biggest law firms with more than 330 staff, including 47 partners and more than 180 legal staff across three offices. One of the firm's more high-profile clients and a frequent user of the judicial system is former Internet Mana Party founder and internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom.
