National's youngest MP is under a cloud after electorate staff resignations and allegations of secret recordings.
Twenty five-year old embattled Clutha-Southland National MP Todd Barclay isn’t allowing an employment stoush to affect his duties.
Earlier this week he officiated at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the $8.2 million State Highway 6 project jointly funded by the Queenstown Lakes District Council ($3.5 million) and the New Zealand Transport Agency ($3.4 million).
Commercial developers contributed $1.3 million toward the cost of the Glenda Drive roundabout, which is aimed at improve traffic flows on rapidly growing Frankton Flats near the airport.
Mr Barclay is under a cloud after staff resigned from his electorate office – the former electorate of Finance Minister Bill English, who held it for 24 years.
Parliamentary Services confirms police have been in contact.
There have been allegations of recordings of staff conversations.
National Party members including John Key have downplayed the matter, including reports Mr Barclay may face an internal challenge to his position.
They have been reported saying it is an employment matter, or a transitional issue, within the office.
