Senior executive and strategic adviser Tim Bennett has been appointed as a director of Bank of China (New Zealand) Ltd.
Bank chair Chris Tremain said: “Tim’s experience across the financial sector will support our continued growth and ambitions to be New Zealand’s leading global bank.”
Bennett fills the director position left from Ruth Richardson’s stepping down from the board in accordance with the rotation required under the bank’s governance policy.
Tremain said Richardson had been an integral member of the bank’s board since its inception.
“We have benefitted immensely from her experience and skills. Ruth is a great New Zealander, and we thank her for her time with the board of the Bank of China (NZ).”
Bennett has most recently been working in Kazakhstan, setting up the AIX, a new securities exchange there – a core pillar of Kazakhstan’s economic development strategy.
He was also chief executive of the NZX, leading its turnaround and growth strategy.
He is a senior executive and strategic adviser with extensive experience in capital, commodity and financial markets, banking, and retail financial services in New Zealand, the US, Australia and Asia.
“Bank of China (NZ) has had an exciting start in the New Zealand market. I look forward to supporting the team in meeting their growth aspirations in the next phase of the bank’s development,” Bennett said.
Bennett’s appointment began on March 11, 2021.
