You have to hand it to our national carrier for drumming up publicity.

Yesterday’s media scrum conference – at a rabbit-hole like location disclosed at the last minute – created quite a fuss.

After months of speculation, media bunnies came far and wide to get a glimpse of the full-sized mock cabin, allowed after a power-point presentation and arming journalists with a plethora of media releases.

Despite the fact the new fit-out will not be available to fly in for another nine months, the nondescript building housing the cabin already resembles a museum inside, with rejected prototypes and walls painted with time-lines, facts and pictures.

Inside the soft-hued cabin, an actor couple snuggling on the seat - along with new pink uniforms and cocoon shaped seats - gave it a decidedly womb-ish effect. (Eww).

Judging by the NBR-reader response, the punter feedback is confused.

Jokes about the airline’s new “shaggin wagon” and “taking the mile-high club to a new level” aside, some are giving it a thumbs-up for innovation, while others are wondering what the noise is all about.

One thing is for sure - Air New Zealand is trying hard to keep ahead of the game and is very good at letting the world know.

Let the marketing push begin.
