Vodafone, which reached a deal with Telstra to buy TelstraClear on July 12, says it has yet to decide what to do with TelstraClear's range of sponsorships.

The deal received final approval from the Commerce Commission earlier today.

TelstraClear range of sponsorship and naming rights deals include the TelstraClear Pacific events centre in Auckland, and arrangements with the Christchurch Arts Festival, Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North, Court Theatre in Christchurch, Lifeline, the Sunshine Trust, the Royal NZ Ballet and Te Papa.

"This is just one of the many things we will be looking at over the coming months," a Vodafone spokeswoman told NBR this afternoon.

"We won’t be making immediate changes to the sponsorship portfolio and over time we will look to align TelstraClear’s sponsorship properties with our overall portfolio."

Vodafone confirmed to NBR earlier today that it will phase out the TelstraClear brand within 18 months.

The two businesses will be run independently for five to six months while an assessment is carried out, Vodafone corporate affairs head Tom Chignell said today.
