Telecom has named Paul Taylor the new head of its Skinny Mobile budget sub-brand.

Mr Taylor was previously Telecom's head of mobile marketing.

Previously, he was head of data product management for Telecom. He earlier held senior marketing positions with European carriers BT, Telefonica and O2.

Mr Taylor grew up in New Zealand and graduated from the University of Waikato with a masters degree in marketing and international management.

Former Skinny boss Paul O'Shannesey left on June 26.

The company refused to comment on speculation about slow sales and Mr O'Shannessey allegedly objecting to Skinny's marketing taking a mainstream turn.

Telecom Retail chief executive Alan Gourdie said there would be no update on Skinny sales until Telecom's annual result, expected to be reported in August.

Skinny launched in January.

Mr Taylor starts his new role next Monday.
