Fletcher Building shares fell back early today while Telecom gained after the Reserve Bank left the official cash rate unchanged at 3 percent.
Having reached its highest level in nearly five months yesterday and Monday at 850, Fletcher Building shares ended yesterday down at 835. Early today they fell a further 6c to 829, but shortly after the market opened the price rose to leave the shares unchanged from yesterday's close at 835.
Telecom gained 3c early to 209, having been unchanged yesterday.
Hallenstein Glasson lifted 4c to 400, Freightways gained 2c to 302, and Burger Fuel gained 5c to 43, while NZX lost 2c early to 160 and Abano Healthcare dropped 7c to 518.
A figure for the change in the NZX-50 index was not available in the opening minutes after the market opened.
In the United States, Wall Street advanced but remained hemmed in a recent trading range.
Markets were pressured early by a report showing a measure of New York state business conditions slipped to the lowest level in more than a year, while industrial output rose at a slower rate in August.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.4 percent to 10,572.73, the Standard&Poor's 500 Index rose 0.4 percent to 1125.07, and the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 0.5 percent to 2301.32.
