Telecom has vacated one of the four buildings that form its $280 million central Auckland headquarters, spokesman Richard Llewellyn tells NBR ONLINE.
The so-called "Blue Tower" has been abandoned; the building closest to the Viaduct, or the back right of the building as seen from Les Mills.
There has also been some consolidation in Wellington, with two floors in the Boulcott St building up for sub-leasing.
The move is partly in response layoffs Mr Llewellyn says. The most recent cull has involved 930 to 1230 staff (the company will not confirm a number until its annual result is reported in August).
But the Chorus demerger was also a factor. The network division was spun off from Telecom in November 2011, a year after the company moved into its new HQ.
A mix of different business units occupied the abandoned towner, Mr Llewellyn says. They have been moved out progressively over the past few weeks.
Telecom will seek to sub-lease the 6500sq m tower, but has yet to appoint an agent or discuss terms with the building's owner, Manson TCLM.
In November 2010, Telecom began moving 2650 staff into the new building.
Some Chorus and Telecom Wholesale employees moved in, but at the same time Chorus moved the bulk of its staff into a new building in Grafton.
