Steven Adams (24) has broken into Forbes annual list of the world's top-100 highest-paid athletes.

On the back of his four-year, circa $US100 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the magazine puts the Kiwi NBA star's annual earnings at $US23.5m, including $US1m from endorsements.

The previous year, the 2.16m basketballer earned a paltry $US3.1m.

Adams is the only New Zealander on the top 100 list.

Up-and-comers including rising English Premier League star Chris Wood, Formula One's Brendon Hartley and golf's Lydia Ko are all below the $US22.9m threshold.
