Wellington lawyer Stephen Franks will lead a review of the code of conduct for the country’s banks.

The Code of Banking Practice, reviewed every three years, sets standards of good banking practice that members of the New Zealand Bankers’ Association (NZBA) need to meet to maintain good service to customers.

The NZBA today released a paper inviting comment on how the code, written in 1996, is operating and areas for improvement.

NZBA acting chief executive Karen Scott-Howman said the review was not restricted to the issues paper.

“People are welcome to comment on any issues they think relevant.”

Written comment on the code can be made by December 17.

Mr Franks’ Wellington law firm Franks & Ogilvie specialises in company and securities law.

He is a former partner and chairman of law firm Chapman Tripp and a former ACT list Member of Parliament from 1999 to 2005.
