Webb’s A2 fine art auctions are sales of their lower priced works or collectibles. They are an excellent place to start if you are wanting to acquire a range of works on paper by major New Zealand artist as well as interesting and smaller works.
 
Next week's auction has the normal range of limited edition prints which are to be found in a number of collections. Works such as Dick Frizzell’s “Grocer with Moko” which is expected to sell for about $2000 or his “Memorandum" lithograph ($800) which features a collection of art historical papers.
 
There is one of Pat Hanly’s colourful; “Wonder” ($3000) screenprints of 1985 as well as a unique watercolour entitled “Caribbean” ($4000)
 
 
There are a couple high higher priced prints including a Ralph Hotere print from an edition of 20. “Red” is expected to sell for $8000. There is also the classic Robin White print “Mabel Mitchell’s Place” of 1971 which is priced at around $4000.
 
A set of the very collectible Barry Lett Multiples are being sold but individually rather than as a collection. They range in price from the McCahon at $2500, the Hotere and the Binney at $2000, the Ellis and Smither at $400 and the Mervyn Williams at $150.
 
There are several Bill Hammond prints including “Specified Departures” ($2000) of 1988, “Singer Songwriter II” ($2500) of 2001 and “Fishfinder 1” ($4000) of 2003
 
There are a couple of good Billy Apple works available – one of his “Paid” works at $1500 and one of his larger “Numbered and Signed” ($4000) works which feature the artist’s large signature as subject matter.
 
There are not many photographs in the auction but there is one of Fiona Pardington’s images of Maori greenstone carving with “Hei Tiki” ($2500) and a collaborative work “The Drowning” ($2000) by Christine Webster and Douglas Wright.
 
Among the paintings are several bargains with one of Peter James Smith’s landscapes inscribed with diagrams and text, “Distance to the Horizon” expected to sell for $2000 and one of Mervyn Williams subtle colour field works “Elegy” for $3000.
 
There are several major landscapes on offer including an  impressionist work of Peter McIntyre, “The Rocks at Matheson’s Bay” ($12,000), Doris Lusk’s “Clutha River at Alexandra” ($7000) and Michael Smither’s more abstract “Okahu Bay Boats” ($6000).
 
Et al has a work which relates to her Venice Biennale exhibition with “de nieuwe stem” ($800) which consists of an artists contract on US mail sack.
 
The sale has a few 19th century works including two John Barr Hoyte watercolours; “The Pink and White Terraces” ($10,000) and “Southern Alps and River” ($9000).
 
Among the sculptural works on offer is a Jeff Thomson corrugated steel “Map of Australia” ($4000), an untitled Guy Ngan steel work ($3000) and a small bronze “The Big Screen” ($10,000) by Paul Dibble.
