SLI Systems [NZX: SLI], the search engine developer, has hired Adaptive Insights executive Neil Thomas as its chief revenue officer and President of North America to help drive sales in the world's biggest economy.

Palo Alto, California-based Thomas starts at SLI on Dec. 1 and has been tasked with lifting SLI's systems by online retailers and business-to-business websites in the company's biggest market, the US, SLI said in a statement. Thomas has been the senior vice president of worldwide sales at cloud-based analytics firm Adaptive Insights.

"Neil brings the expertise and experience necessary to accelerate SLI’s growth, and we are delighted to welcome him to the team," chief executive Shaun Ryan said. "SLI’s strong recent growth points to the significant opportunity ahead of us."

Last month SLI co-founder Geoff Brash resigned as vice-president of the company, having halved his stake in the firm the week earlier.

Christchurch-based SLI, which is unprofitable, is investing to fund its growth plans as it hopes to capitalise on the growing e-commerce market, particularly in the US, and says its software as a service is the second biggest after Oracle to provide online retailers with suggestive search engines.

The shares were unchanged at $1.20 yesterday, and have dropped 35 percent this year. The stock is rated an average 'buy' based on two analyst recommendations compiled by Reuters, with a median price target of $2.
