Singapore Airlines has appointed Simon Turcotte as New Zealand general manager. He replaces Edwin Chiang, who heads to Jakarta on October 31 to begin his new role as general manager of Singapore Airlines Indonesia.
Mr Turcotte, a Canadian, was most recently general manager of Singapore Airlines in Spain and Portugal, a position he held for more than two and a half years.
He joined the airline in 2007, initially at the airline’s head office in Singapore where he held a number of roles. He then spent two years as state manager of Singapore Airlines in Gujarat, India, based in Ahmedabad, before he took up the Spain-based role.
Mr Turcotte joins the New Zealand operation at a time when it has boosted capacity on the Auckland-Singapore route in partnership with Air New Zealand and the introduction of the new premium economy class.
“Our New Zealand customers will soon be able to experience premium economy class when the A380 service returns for the summer on October 26, for departures ex Auckland from October 27," he says.
“As well as experiencing all that New Zealand has to offer, I’m looking forward to meeting and working with the local travel industry and Air New Zealand as I pick up the reins from Edwin, who leaves the local business in excellent shape."
Mr Turcotte has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, Montréal.
