Former National prime minister Dame Jenny Shipley will chair the new advisory board during the phase out of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA).
Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee has named the board, which will provide him with advice about the transition of the authority’s functions and powers.
From February 1, CERA will move from being a standalone government department to a departmental agency within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Mr Brownlee says this will position CERA alongside the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management to share the lessons of the recovery for the future management of natural disasters.
CERA will finally be wound up in April 2016 under its legislation.
Dame Jenny, who was originally an MP in the Ashburton district, is also chairwoman of Genesis Energy, the China Construction Bank and Seniors Money International.
The business community will be represented by Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend; chartered accountant and company director Gill Cox; and Mary Devine, former chief executive of Carter Group.
Others on the board are:
Local government and Maori:
Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel
Environment Canterbury chairwoman Dame Margaret Bazley
Mark Solomon, Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu
Kelvin Coe, Selwyn District Council
David Ayers, Waimakariri District Council
Darren Wright and Leanne Curtis will represent the community sector and Maggy Tai Rakena the not for profit sector.
