Air New Zealand [NZX: AIR] has a luxury, top-of-the-line exclusive lounge area it reserves for its most prominent fliers, hidden in Sydney Airport.

But, to be able to enjoy the benefits of the lounge, a passenger has to be an Elite Priority One member.

Elite Priority One is a step above Air New Zealand’s Elite 10 club, where the customer has to have been a member for 10 or more years.

An Elite Priority One membership is available only by personal invitation from Air New Zealand’s chief executive, Christopher Luxon.

Air New Zealand revealed to NBR this luxury area is located in the new lounge in Sydney Airport, and is reserved for Elite Priority One members and their guests.

Last week, Air New Zealand revealed its new, more than 1500sq m lounge design in Sydney Airport.

The new lounge – located on level two of the international terminal – has a bar, a range of cafes, a kids’ zone and apparently, tucked away, the luxury lounge for Elite Priority members.

“Elite Priority One is an invitation-only membership programme for our most frequent flyers, which has been running for more than a year,” a spokeswoman for Air New Zealand says.

“While we don’t discuss the specific criteria for Elite Priority One membership or benefits, the programme has been designed to recognise those who travel with us most often.”

Despite this, it is rumoured a host of top New Zealand executives as well as some of New Zealand’s university chancellors, are on its guest list.
