International partnership with South Korean shipbuilding company secures new vessel development deal.
Sealegs International Limited has entered a significant business agreement with South Korean shipbuilding company Duck Sung to develop the next competitor in the amphibious vehicle market based on its patented technology.
Global sales director of Sealegs International David McKee Wright told NBR that development costs for the new amphibious vessel with the South Korean company would well surpass the million-dollar mark.
“We do not have a specific cost of production as of yet but we are sure that the price will well exceed the $1 million mark.”
Specifically being targeted for the commercial market, Sealegs has successfully completed trails on land and sea of new components and technologies to be used in the construction of new vessels in the 7 – 12 metre range, with a gross laden weight of up to 5 tonnes.
Sealegs chief executive officer David Glen said that the partnership is a significant milestone in the company’s expansion, with the heavier load carrying capacity enabling them to pursue many other markets and customers around the world.
“It is expected that this new technology will unlock new revenue streams for the company and will complement the manufacture and sale of the existing 6.1m and 7.1m rigid inflatable boats which have proven to be so popular in the recreational sectors around the world.”
