Rival clinics tear their hair out over ads
Competing hair clinics are at odds over statements made about their products.
Competing hair clinics are at odds over statements made about their products.
Well-known hair restoration company Clive Hair Clinics is being challenged by competitor SRS Hair Clinics over advertising claims.
SRS director C Sidhu made a raft of complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority's complaints board about Clive Clinics' website, television, yellow pages, billboards and newspaper advertisements.
In dealing with issues it probably would have preferred not to rule on, the ASA board partially upheld some of SRS's complaints relating to statements made on Clive's website, but did not uphold those about its other advertisements.
The complaints related to statements by Clive such as: "...in the long term, genetic predispositions towards hair loss can be averted".
The ASA board found the statement, and eight other similar claims, were not supported by sufficient evidence and so were upheld.
In its decision, it said advertisers making therapeutic claims should utilise the therapeutic advertising pre-vetting service to ensure they are not breaking the ASA codes of practice.
