Stats NZ has the regional GDP for the last year (to March 2016). Here's the ranking for GDP growth:
- Bay of Plenty 7.7%
- Auckland 6.0%
- Otago 4.8%
- Northland 4.0%
- Waikato 3.9%
- Wellington 3.6%
- Canterbury 3.5%
- Manawatu-Wanganui 3.2%
- Tasman/Nelson 2.8%
- Gisborne 2.6%
- Hawke’s Bay 2.5%
- Marlborough 1.7%
- Southland -1.0%
- West Coast -2.8%
- Taranaki -8.5%
If you adjust for population, GDP growth per capita is:
- Bay of Plenty 5.6%
- Auckland 3.1%
- Otago 3.0%
- Northland 2.3%
- Wellington 2.2%
- Manawatu-Wanganui 2.2%
