Top global fashion brands opens doors in Auckland.
British high street fashion brands Topshop and Topman open this morning in Queen St, Auckland, as the retailer looks for other sites in New Zealand’s main cities.
The two international brands come with powerful reputations and an international consumer following.
They join other international brands which have come to Auckland in the past few years and are the first to straddle luxury fashion and high street clothing.
The fashion brands are opening their doors in a flagship 1300m² two-storey store midtown on the corner of Victoria and Queen Sts.
Topshop, majority owned by British tycoon Sir Philip Green's Arcadia Group, is known for its affordable fashion collections based on the latest catwalk trends. In New Zealand Kiwi designer Karen Walker partnered with local clothing chain Barkers and Christchurch-based NBR Rich Lister Philip Carter to form Top Retail to secure the rights to own, develop and run the brand.
The completed store has transformed previous bank premises and took one year of planning and extensive redevelopment works during four months of construction.
Project delivery specialists Rebbeck Dunn Watters managed building owner Tan Chee Hoe & Sons' site preparation works and the Topshop Topman fitout on time and within budget.
Director Hugh Rebbeck says the project was challenging on a number of fronts but was aided by excellent collaboration from local and offshore design teams and a top tier contractor.
He says it is evident Queen St is the preferred location for flagship stores and the centre of the city is becoming a retail powerhouse similar to Melbourne’s and Sydney’s CBDs.
