UPDATED: Hobsonville proposal dead but Auckland screen hub concept lives on
What’s anticipated to be a particularly contentious meeting of Auckland Council’s Auckland Development Committee is being held from 9.30am today.
Included on the agenda is the presentation of a report regarding progress on ATEED’s proposal for a film studio campus on ratepayer-owned land at Hobsonville Point.
As recently as last week, film industry and ATEED sources were bullish about the prospect of satisfying the council’s requirement of tabling a commercially viable plan for the studio complex, even though the deadline of October 31 had been missed.
Yesterday, however, NBR was tipped off that the studio project is unlikely to be able to proceed, due to – as stated in ATEED’s report – the Auckland Investment Office having “been unable to obtain a firm commitment, either in substance or in principle, from any private sector party willing to assume, either the development risk or, alternatively, the overall operating risk of the precinct.”
Also up for discussion is the so-called taniwha tax relating to “Sites of Value to Mana Whenua” from Auckland Council’s proposed Unitary Plan, as well as a controversial Special Housing Area.
Look for coverage of the meeting on NBR ONLINE tomorrow or watch the livestream now (fair warning, though: the meeting is expected to run until 5pm).
