Christchurch city councillorw have voted for a 27% rates hike over four years and some asset sale.

Christchurch city councillors have struck rates increases of 7.98% this year, followed by 7.18% next year, then 6.98%, and 5.74% in 2018/19.

The debates have been characterised by reluctance of councillors to cancel work programmes in their wards, and opposition by the People’s Choice group of six
