Peter Wise has been appointed to the role of Country Manager, IDC New Zealand effective 1 September 2015. In his new role, Peter will be reporting to the A/NZ Managing Director Ullrich Loeffler who was also the predecessor of the role.
“Peter has been a leading part of IDC’s local management team for the last few years. His professional experience, sharp analysis and commercial mind has gained him great respect both internally and amongst our customers. We are thrilled to have someone of Peter’s calibre and experience lead the New Zealand team into the future, says Ullrich Loeffler, Managing Director IDC A/NZ.
Wise has been with IDC for three years as Telecommunications Research Director, and has been key in driving business growth. Wise will lead the New Zealand business which includes nine locally based technology analysts dedicated to researching the local IT, telecommunications, hardware and software markets; as well as a sales and events team that organises a number of technology based conferences and events.
“Peter’s appointment to Country Manager reflects IDC’s commitment to the New Zealand ICT community and continued investments in the local team” Loeffler adds.
Wise says his immediate priority is to keep the momentum in the business going and ensure IDC continues to provide high quality research to the New Zealand technology and IT buyer community.
"IDC has a strong reputation for independent, relevant and valuable research and we are privileged to work with the top brands in the New Zealand tech sector to provide insight and tracking of existing and future technology markets”, Wise says.
Wise's own recent area of technology research has been to look at the emerging Internet of Things market in New Zealand. "Worldwide IDC is predicting that there will be almost 30 billion connected things by 2020 and we've found that New Zealand is reasonably advanced in terms of take-up of machine to machine connections relative to other countries – this is mainly driven by a large number of connections for smart electricity meters, but there are also pockets of innovation in other sectors such as Transport and Security", Wise adds.
Wise has a strong commercial, strategy and marketing background in the telecommunications industry and is a recovering Chartered Accountant. In previous roles he was Head of Strategy at Telecom Wholesale and GM Business Marketing at TelstraClear.
