Otago educators moving into Queen St

An Otago joint venture is targeting students in Auckland

Otago educators are muscling into the Auckland scene.

Otago Polytechnic’s Auckland International Campus this week launches a joint venture with Manukau-based Future Skills Academy.

It will offer English language programmes and a Bachelor of Applied Management.

The Queen St campus will also host the Auckland office of Capable NZ, Otago Polytechnic’s highly successful innovation where people with extensive experience, but few qualifications, can have their skills and knowledge assessed against formal standards.

Otago Polytechnic chief executive Phil Ker says the programmes are different to those available to international students in Auckland.

He says Otago's Bachelor of Applied Management degree is based on industry projects, and students undertake a 400 hour internship in their final year.

"So we are offering something new and very valuable to international students who want to live in Auckland, but gain an Otago Polytechnic qualification.”

Further programmes may also be offered in due course.
