An internal email circulated by NZME Radio staff that was leaked on Twitter has caused the media company to apologise. (See below for the full image)

The email encouraged staff to wear a branded gear to show how proud staff were of their workplace.

But at the end this statement was made:

"P.S. unless you’re butt-ugly and useless, where we can furnish you with Mediaworks apparel."

NZME radio managing director Dean Buchanan apologised for the company.

“Apparently, this was an attempt at humour – it's not funny and it's not acceptable and we apologise for any offence,” he says.

MediaWorks declined to make a statement to NBR Online but Hilary Barry responded to the image on Twitter:

"Butt ugly and respectful of other people #mediaworks."

But when she received a personal apology in a Twitter response, Ms Barry tweeted that she accepted it.

Mr Buchanan did not apologise for the poor grammar in the email.

NZME and MediaWorks each own several competing radio stations. NZME operates Newstalk ZB, ZM and The Hits. MediaWorks operates The Edge, Radio Live, More FM and The Rock.

APN NZ, The Radio Network and GrabOne rebranded to NZME in September.
